If there’s one thing that most homeowners dread, it’s to have their home catch fire.  Whether it’s waking up from a deep sleep to hear the smoke detector wail, or returning from work to discover smoke pouring out of a window, nothing gets the Adrenalin pumping faster than a house-fire.  Even worse is the panic that a fire can create in the most sedate individual and you have a recipe for disaster that’s hard to top.  If the situation were to happen to you, do you know what to do to avoid making the matter worse?  Are you prepared to deal with most common sources of house-fires? While cavemen both revered and feared it, fire is a tool that has literally taken mankind to the Moon and back. It also makes modern conveniences such as the internal combustion engine possible.  Where would our world be without it?  The problem with fire is that it’s a two-edged sword.  While it empowers our society, it can just as easily damage or destroy great swaths of it in no time at all.  To put the matter into perspective, I decided to put this week’s blog to the test, as well as the torch, to explore the many facets of fire.

For most of us, the epitome of the American Dream is owning our own home.  Being one of the biggest investments most of us will ever make, we put our hearts and souls into buying and beautifying our homes.  It’s also why we lavish so much time and money into protecting it.  While most Floridians lose sleep worrying if the next named storm is going to wreak havoc on our home, or how to keep burglars at bay, what most fail to realize is that there lurks a much bigger concern that not only has the power to damage or destroy our home, but it can harm or claim those tucked safely inside it.
